745 seek shelter at 4 relief centres as number of flood victims rises in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: The number of flood victims continues to increase with 745 people taking shelter at four relief centres today.

The four centres are located in Pasir Mas and Bachok.

A total of 367 victims were evacuated at SK Jelawat, SK Tok Deh (246), SMK Beris Panchor (67) and SK Kedai Tanjung (65).

The victims, who were from 213 families, have been evacuated to the centres in stages since flood hit their villages last Sunday.

As at 7.30pm, the Kelantan river in Kota Baru measured at 2.39m which is 0.54m above its danger mark of 1.85m.

Two other Kelantan rivers in Machang and Kuala Krai recorded above their alert levels.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Disaster Management director Nik Mohamed Noor Nik Ishak visited flood victims at SK Tok Deh relief centre in Rantau Panjang today.

Mohamed Noor said his visit was to ensure the centre's operation ran well.

"I also want to make sure all agencies involved carry out their duties well and flood victims get their aid," he said.
