King, Queen arrive in UAE for special visit in conjunction with COP28

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), yesterday for a special visit which ends on Dec 4.

According to Istana Negara, the special aircraft carrying Their Majesties landed at the Abu Dhabi International Airport at 3.40 pm local time (7.40 pm in Malaysia). 

The visit is in conjunction with the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) which will take place from Nov 30 to Dec 12 in Dubai.

Their Majesties are accompanied by Pahang Regent Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Their Majesties were received on arrival by UAE Home Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Malaysian Ambassador to the UAE, Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.

Al-Sultan Abdullah is scheduled to make a courtesy call to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Qasr Al Watan today.

At the meeting, His Majesty will confer Malaysia's highest state award, the Darjah Utama Seri Mahkota Negara (D.M.N), and Darjah Kerabat Sri Indera Mahkota Pahang Yang Pertama on Sheikh Mohamed.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Sheikh Mohamed are also scheduled to grace a ceremony of exchange of documents between Malaysian and UAE companies on investments in renewable energy in Malaysia.

Al-Sultan Abdullah is also scheduled to attend the World Climate Action Summit and High-Level Segment for Heads of State and Government on Dec 1.

According to the statement, His Majesty has also consented to launch the Malaysian Pavilion and grace a ceremony of exchange of documents involving Malaysian and UAE companies on the sidelines of COP28.

Earlier, Wisma Putra, in a statement, said the royal delegation includes Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and senior government officials.-- BERNAMA
