Kemaman by-election: Former imam is a seasoned voter, voting since 1959

KEMAMAN: Former imam Mohd Said has never missed casting his ballots in a general election or state elections since 1959.

The 88-year-old from Kampung Baru Kerteh near here described voting as his responsibility to the country and opportunity to choose a leader to represent the community.

"I've never missed out on voting. Previously, I used to arrive at the polling centres around noon but now due to my age, I prefer to come out early.

"Furthermore, now with the monsoon season. I do not want to be caught in the rain so I decided to leave home early to vote," he said.

Mohd was among the first voters in queue at SK Kerteh today at 7.30am despite the centre only opening 30 minutes later.

When asked which party he chose, Mohd smiled saying he had made his choice and hoped the candidate wins.

The SK Kerteh polling centre has a total of 2,844 registered voters with five polling streams.

The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election will see a straight fight between Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar of Pas and Barisan Nasional's direct candidate general (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
