Beware of social media service offers: Don't fall for eMadani credit cash conversions [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The public is cautioned not to be duped by service offerings on social media, particularly those related to turning eMadani credits into cash.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said that despite no reports of eMadani programme fraud being received, the public should still exercise caution.

"In line with the government's announcement regarding the eMadani programme, which opened its registration yesterday, the police advises the public to be cautious to avoid falling victim to fraud.

"Therefore, registration for the eMadani programme should only be made via participating e-wallet service providers such as MAE, Setel, ShopeePay, and Touch 'n Go e-wallet.

"Users are also advised not to click on any links from advertisements or emails," he said in a statement today.

Ramli also reminded the public not to use intermediaries as registrars for e-wallet accounts and to comply with the usage terms set by the government.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the one-off assistance programme would be open from Dec 4 to Feb 20 next year.

It is an initiative by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to promote the digital economy and cultivate a cashless payment culture, benefitting 10 million eligible adults with an allocation of RM1 billion.

However, MoF, in a statement, informed that the government would take strict action, including blocking involved accounts and revoking the eMadani credit rights of recipients if there were reports of any cases involving "peer-to-peer" transfers or cash redemptions.
