Foreign worker killed in collapse at Central Spine Road project site

LIPIS: An Indonesian construction worker died after being trapped under rubble in a 2.5m deep trench at the Central Spine Road (CSR) project site in Kampung Berembang, Padang Tengku, near here, today.

In the 11am incident, Khairul Anam, 28, from Jawa Timur, Indonesia went to the site to inspect the depth of the trench when the soil collapsed on him.

Lipis police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said the CSR project construction site is located about 1km from the main road.

"The victim was at the site with three others. When the excavator operator stopped the machine, the victim had stepped into the trench to measure its depth.

"Suddenly, a pile of earth landed on him. The three workers who noticed the incident tried to retrieve the victim... the victim was buried for about 15 minutes before the workers managed to dig the earth and pull the victim who appeared very weak," he said in a statement.

Azli said the medical team, who attended to the victim, later pronounced him dead before his remains were sent to Lipis Hospital for post mortem at 3pm.
