GEORGE TOWN: Newly-appointed Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying sees her appointment as a new challenge and vows to give her very best.

In her latest Facebook entry, Lim said she would fulfil this trust based on the policy of the Unity Government and the Prime Minister's vision and noble principles of integrity.

"The people's expectations are very high and the line-up of ministers and deputy ministers have been entrusted with the responsibility to fight for the good of the people and the country.

"I would like to thank Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for entrusting me with the role and appointing me as the Deputy Finance Minister to help with the development of the country.

"I would also like to express my appreciation to the DAP leadership, especially the party secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who proposed my name to be appointed as deputy minister, entrusted with this heavy responsibility," she said.

It was reported that a member of the Lim Kit Siang family is back in the Finance Ministry after the DAP stalwart's son, Guan Eng, last held the important portfolio from 2018 to 2020.

This time, Guan Eng's sister - Hui Ying, has been moved from holding the Deputy Education Minister portfolio in Anwar's cabinet to that of Deputy Finance Minister.

Lim said the Deputy Finance Minister portfolio was her second portfolio since 2022.

"My experience as the Deputy Education Minister will help me carry out tasks related to the national treasury together with the Finance Minister.

"I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to the Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who has been my comrade since our appointment as a member of the senate representing Penang.

"She has entrusted me with important tasks and responsibilities in the ministry all this time.

"I am confident that she will continue to lead this largest ministry well and succeed in the seven main cores in leading the country's education system," she added.

Lim also expressed her gratitude to Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Indera Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi, the former director-general of Education Malaysia Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali, the entire leadership and ministry staff, administrative and support staff at the Deputy Education Minister's Office, the schools management board and the school which provided advice and full cooperation throughout this year.

"Not forgetting, also non-governmental organisations related to education, especially the chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Chinese School Management Board Associations (Dong Zong) Tan Tai Kim, the chairman of the Malaysian Chinese School Teachers Association (Jiao Zong) Cheah Lek Aee, Tamil Foundation Malaysia and many and other NGO leaders.

Thank you for your dedication, commitment and cooperation in fighting for education issues for the sake of all Malaysian children.

"I will carry out this important responsibility to the best of my ability and give priority, high commitment and the best service to Malaysians," she said.
