Loke: Decision to drop Sivakumar does not imply any failure [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision to drop V Sivakumar from his ministerial position is solely the discretion of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, not the party.

Emphasising the rationality behind the decision, DAP secretary-general, Anthony Loke hinted that it does not imply any failure or lack of trust in the former minister.

He also commended Sivakumar for openly accepting the decision, highlighting that his response aligns with the party's principles.

"We consistently remind our members that a government position is not merely a rank but a privilege and a responsibility.

"Government roles are entrusted responsibilities, not individual entitlements. When appointed, duties are to be carried out, and upon leaving, one must accept the decision.

"Sivakumar's commendable response is appreciated, and I thank him for that," he said during a press conference at the DAP headquarters today.

In today's reshuffle, Sivakumar emerges as the most notable casualty, being the sole minister ousted from the administration in today's cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He had faced repeated calls to resign after an aide and several senior ministry officers were arrested over corruption allegations early this year.

Steven Sim takes over from Sivakumar, advancing from his deputy role in Finance.

As the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Mertajam, Steven now holds the distinction of being the youngest minister in the cabinet.

With prior experience in the Finance Ministry portfolio, Steven believes it will empower him to enhance the status of workers within the country.

"I am cognizant of the significance of this ministry in national development. My focus will be on improving employment and skills in alignment with the Madani framework.

"And I believed that my experience in shaping the nation's fiscal policies will be beneficial. I am ready to commence my duties immediately," he said.

Regarding his appointment as the youngest minister in the government cabinet, he views it as a strength within the party, boldly showcasing the emergence of young talent to the forefront.

"I express gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Secretary-General of DAP for their confidence in assigning me this responsibility.

"It is a testament to the strength within DAP, offering opportunities for young individuals like myself to step forward."
