Food Aid Foundation celebrates decade of unwavering commitment to end hunger

KUALA LUMPUR: Food Aid Foundation (FAF), a non-profit organisation dedicated to eradicating hunger and providing nutritional support, celebrated a decade of unwavering commitment and transformative impact during its 10th anniversary yesterday (December 12).

FAF founder Rick Chee expressed gratitude in a statement for the support that has propelled the organisation to a significant milestone in his address during the celebration.

"I stand before all of you not just as the founder of this organisation but as someone deeply moved by your positive actions, compassion, and generosity. Your support, whether through time, resources or financial contributions, has made our mission possible. FAF is truly blessed to have all of you, and we are immensely grateful," he said.

Chee said the foundation's vision is to create a sustainable mission aligned with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), adding that it "dared to dream of a world where surplus food would not go to waste but, instead nourish the hopes of the poor and needy."

"We envisioned a mission undertaken by Malaysians from all walks of life, serving the community irrespective of their race, colour or religion," he said.

FAF faced many challenges in the early days, but the team's determination was unwavering, he said, expressing his appreciation and gratitude to its partners, associates, fellow non-profit organisations, countless volunteers, and staff from all over the country for their support and endorsement of their mission.

"Tonight (December 13), we celebrate the partnerships that have expanded our reach and magnified our impact, showing that when we unite in a common cause, we are capable of remarkable achievements," he said.

According to Chee, in 2019, the foundation distributed RM1.2 million worth of free food monthly and RM3 million free food per month during the pandemic from 2020 to 2021, while from last year till now, FAF has been delivering an average of RM2.05 million worth of food per month.

Over the last 10 years, FAF has served an accumulative total of RM120 million free food to the needy, he added.

"Our success is not ours alone. It belongs to every volunteer, every partner and every member of the community who has stood by our side," he said, urging all quarters to continue to work hand in hand, side by side, to turn FAF's aspirations into a reality. — Bernama
