Atuk's last words and requests echo in the hearts of legendary`Raja Gelek's grandchildren

BAGAN DATUK: The late Datuk M Daud Kilau had requested his granddaughter, Norhasliyana Hassan, 33, to handle his body properly when death comes.

Sharing the final moments with her late grandfather yesterday, Norhasliyana said her late grandfather whom she called Atuk wanted his body to be bathed and shrouded properly.

"Atuk said he would leave. Atuk requested for his body to be bathed and shrouded properly. When I heard the request, I didn't pay much attention because I thought he was just confused.

"He asked for forgiveness and said he was going to leave soon," she told reporters when met at the Tuminah Hamidi Mosque here today.

Norhasliyana said that was the last conversation she had with her grandfather whom she described as a person deeply cherished by his nine grandchildren.

"Sometimes when Atuk called, he always asked, 'What are my grandchildren doing?' After that, Atuk would sing the song 'Cek Mek Molek' to me.

"I will miss hearing him singing and seeing his smile. Since Atuk was admitted to the hospital on Dec 12, he hasn't smiled. He only gives minimal responses.

"I returned to Kuala Lumpur yesterday because the doctor said Atuk's condition was stable. We thought of proceeding with the surgery on his leg that was supposed to be done yesterday. But when I arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Atuk's condition worsened," she said.

Norhasliyana said the health of the late M Daud deteriorated since March and worsened earlier this month.
