Empati's rap initiative: Breaking stigmas and fostering empathy for juvenile students

KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) focused on youth mental health, Empati, has taken the lead in producing a music video featuring juvenile students.

The initiative aims to actively combat stigma and dispel misconceptions surrounding these young individuals.

Empati collaborated with well-known local rap artists, including Zynakal, ChronicalZ, and Dani Kurama, selecting two exceptionally talented students from Sekolah Tunas Bakti Sungai Besi.

The project not only seeks to create a stigma-free environment for juvenile students but also serves as a platform to advocate for mental health awareness among youth, including those affected by HIV and AIDS.

Its founder and president, Syahida Zulkarnain emphasised the prevalent stigma and negative perceptions surrounding juvenile students in society.

The NGO aims to address this issue by providing a platform for juvenile youths seeking a second chance from society. Thus, the group decided to start with juvenile students from Sekolah Tunas Bakti first.

"This time, Empati has the opportunity to approach juvenile youths who are still hoping for a second chance from society.

"Through Project Empati they successfully showcased the talents of two juvenile students in the field of rap," said Syahida in a statement.

Hence, Empati made the decision to partner with well-known local rappers such as Zynakal, ChronicalZ, and Dani Kurama who all played a pivotal role in generating ideas and offering suggestions for the rap songs under Project Empati.

Through Project Empati, the talents of two juvenile students in the field of rap were showcased, with lyrics originating from the creative minds of Ah Chong and Nik from Sekolah Tunas Bakti Sungai Besi.

The collaborating artists played a crucial role in refining and developing their ideas, highlighting the genuine empathy behind the project.

The recorded song is set to be released in February of the upcoming year, with the music video premiering at Sekolah Tunas Bakti during their first-ever showcase, featuring a lineup of rap artists.
