Maran, the only flood hit district in Pahang, with 34 victims

KUANTAN: Maran is the only district still affected by floods in Pahang with two flood relief centres housing 34 victims.

As of noon today, the victims from 11 families were occupying the Kampung Baru multipurpose hall and SK Serengkam relief centres which were opened on Dec 28 and Dec 29 respectively.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said the relief centres in Bera and Temerloh were closed at noon today after all the victims were allowed to return home.

"The PPS at SK Temerloh Jaya and SK Bukit Gemuruh in Bera which was opened on Dec 28 was closed around 10am today. The SK Chenor relief centre in Maran was also closed today.

"Currently, there are 29 people from 10 families at Kampung Baru multipurpose hall and five people from one family residing at SK Serengkam in Maran," he said.

At the height of the floods in Pahang last week, some 700 people from six districts were evacuated.

Meanwhile, three rivers in two districts in Pahang have breached the danger level at noon today, resulting from intermittent rain in the area.

The water level at Kuala Chini and Paloh Hinai in Pekan registered a reading of 17.99m and 11.40m compared to the danger level of 14.90m and 10.30m respectively.

Lubuk Paku river in Maran recorded 19.04m compared to 19m which has been set as the danger level.
