Flood victims should not criticise govt incase of setbacks at relief centres, says Agong

PEKAN: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has reminded flood victims not to hastily discredit the government in the event of any shortages at temporary evacuation centers.

The monarch said the government was always striving to assist and provide the best to the flood victims, and there is no such thing as taking it easy when it comes to handling flood victims.

"Flood victims have to be patient throughout their stay at the flood relief centres... for example, if their meals arrive a little late, do not make a fuss and blame the workers at the relief centre who have done their best.

"When affected by the floods, those involved have to be extremely grateful with the various assistance provided by the government. I understand that the meals at the flood relief centres are tasty... there are no more sardines like previously," he said when visiting flood victims at the SK Merchong Jaya temporary relief centre near here yesterday.

Also present were Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Pekan member of parliament Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Fuzi Sh Ali.

Al-Sultan Abdullah, who is the Sultan of Pahang, also advised flood victims to give priority to cleanliness at the flood relief centres to avoid infectious diseases that can spread easily.

"Throughout their stay at the flood relief centres, I hope flood victims can, together, keep the place clean and not place the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness on other parties.

"Covid-19 is still not over in our country and we do not want other diseases so that is the reason everyone is reminded to maintain hygiene in relief centres especially the toilets," he said.

The king said flood victims have to keep their fingers crossed so that the floodwaters will recede fast and allow them to return to their respective homes to resume their normal routines.

During his visit, Al-Sultan Abdullah handed out aid to children and senior citizens who were housed at the relief centre.
