Auto-lock door accidentally traps toddler inside Wangsa Maju condo

KUALA LUMPUR: A one-year old toddler was accidentally locked inside a unit at the Feza Residence Condominium in Wangsa Maju this morning, causing panic.

The 11.35am incident is believed to have unfolded when the toddler's mother left her home alone briefly.

When the mother returned and tried to enter, it got auto locked from the inside.

She then immediately called the Fire and Rescue Department for help.

A spokesman from the City Fire and Rescue operations command centre confirmed receiving a distress call at 11.37am and said a team of eight firemen from Setapak rushed to the scene.

Operations Commander PB Rozaidi Mat Isa said upon arriving at the scene at 11.42am, they found that the door had been locked by a one-year-old living in the house.

"We acted fast and used the repelling technique to climb through the balcony of the above unit, the 13th floor, to get into the house on the 12th floor.

"The attempt was successful after the fireman opened the front door from inside," he said when contacted.

Rozaidi said the child was safely returned to her mother before the operation ended at 12.30pm today.
