No casualties reported in RapidKL bus blaze

KUALA LUMPUR: All six passengers and the driver of a RapidKL bus that caught fire this morning at Jalan Ampang, here, emerged unscathed.

In a statement, RapidBus said the bus, which was serving Route 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya-Lebuh Ampang) went up in flames in front of the Great Eastern shopping centre at 10.52am.

"During the incident, the bus captain noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus and quickly decided to stop the vehicle to disembark passengers and attempt to control the fire from spreading using the fire extinguisher on the bus.

"The fire department was contacted and arrived at the location at 10.56am, and the fire was successfully extinguished shortly after."

It said that there was also no damage to public property.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire forensics team is on-site to conduct preliminary investigations into the incident. The bus was towed back to the depot at 12.08pm."

RapidBus apologised to passengers affected by the incident and said it will fully cooperate with police to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
