Kuching implements alternative routes to ease traffic congestion

KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall has initiated alternative routes to mitigate the traffic congestion at Jalan Diplomatik and the Yayasan Sarawak/Mardi roundabout, especially during peak hours.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, Kuching North Mayor Hilmy Othman highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Public Works Department in addressing the congestion issues. He identified several causes contributing to the traffic snarls and outlined the countermeasures taken.

"Among the solutions provided include the temporary closure of one lane on Jalan Diplomatik from 6am to 7.30am. Additionally, the right-sided lane from the Yayasan Sarawak/Mardi roundabout to the Casuarina traffic lights will be expanded from one to two lanes," Hilmy was quoted as saying.

Diversions are also set up on Jalan Diplomatik from the Jabatan Arkib/SMK Demak traffic lights towards Jalan Casuarina. Furthermore, the Casuarina roundabout to Jalan Diplomatik will be closed, with a U-turn facility from the direction of Kasuma Resort towards the Stadium roundabout.

Hilmy appealed to all road users to utilise the provided alternative routes and requested the affected city residents to be patient during this period of congestion adjustment. He reassured that the city council, as the administrator of Kuching North City, is committed to ensuring the comfort and safety of its citizens.
