Lampoopalooza 2024 to illuminate Kota Kinabalu with art, light, and social responsibility

KOTA KINABALU: Lampoopalooza 2024 is looking to be an exceptional experience when it lights up Gaya Street in downtown Kota Kinabalu on Feb 2, combining artistic flair with social consciousness. The event is a creative endeavour by the Sabah Tourism Board to merge art, light, and community empowerment.

The festival will cast a radiant glow over the city with its unique attractions.

According to the event's official description, a laser light show will adorn the iconic STB building, creating a visual spectacle.

Accompanying this is a solar-powered illuminated water tank installation and glow art by local talents Azlan Dulikab and Rosmaini Sunarjo, symbolising both artistic innovation and commitment to sustainability.

As the sun dips below the horizon, glow-in-the-dark paintings will transform the venue into an enchanting world of light and colour.

Lampoopalooza 2024 will aim for a lasting impact on local communities.

"Taking our commitment to community empowerment a step further by incorporating sustainable energy solutions, the festival will feature solar panels strategically placed to power the illuminated water tanks.

"Following the event, these solar panels will be donated to Kampung Timpayasa in Ulu Papar, ensuring a lasting impact on the village by providing renewable energy to light up the village and power essential facilities.

"Currently, the only source of electricity in Kampung Timpayasa is the villagers' own small solar PV system," read the event's description.

The initiative, a collaboration with Japson Wong and TONIBUNG, also plans to donate the utilised water tanks to identified villages, ensuring the festival's legacy continues to benefit the local populace.

In partnership with the Sabah Art Gallery, Lampoopalooza will serve as a platform to showcase the talent of local artists. The featured glow-in-the-dark artworks, set to be donated to rural schools post-festival, will provide a unique visual experience, blending traditional artistry with the captivating allure of light.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Malaysia Association of Hotels, the festival will tantalise taste buds with an array of culinary delights from the city's hotels, presented through pop-up stalls.

For those attending, Lampoopalooza 2024 is set to be an immersive experience that harmonises artistic expression, gastronomic exploration, and social initiative.

The festival invites everyone to partake in this celebration of light, art, and community spirit, from 5.30pm to 11pm along Gaya Street, stretching from the Sabah Tourism Board office to the end of the HSBC Bank block.
