Sabah denies viral video claiming difficult to find halal food in the state

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will put emphasis in the halal industry in Sabah and has never neglected the aspect of halalan toyyiban (lawful and good).

Recently, a video went viral on social media featuring a man claiming that finding halal food was very challenging in the state.



Sabah Education and Islamic Affairs Exco Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said that anyone with any confusion regarding halalan toyyiban food is requested to refer to the relevant agencies or departments in this state.

"If (food products in Sabah) have the halal logo, it means it is halal. We need to be careful in this matter.

"Any issues or confusion should be referred to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council, the State Department of Islamic Affairs, and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

"We also have the Sabah Halal Hub (MAHAS), the Sabah Halal Committee, which I chair myself, and MUIS Halal Hub. Together with JAKIM, we always ensure that halalan toyyiban is strengthened in the state of Sabah.

"So far, there have been no issues (regarding the difficulty of finding halal food) from time to time because we are constantly monitoring this matter," he said.

Ariifin, who is also state Science, Technology, and Innovation (KSTI) minister told the media after the Education Assistance Presentation held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.
