Baby boy delivered after Sunday accident that killed his mother dies

PASIR GUDANG: A baby boy, delivered through a caesarean section after his mother was killed during an accident on Sunday, died yesterday.

The sad news over the death of the infant was confirmed by a relative to the family who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The relative said the infant died at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here about 5pm yesterday and the cremation is scheduled to be held today.

According to the relative, the mother of the infant, S. Kavisha, 29, was travelling with her elder sister, who was behind the wheel, when the car crashed into an electrical panel box on highway shoulders along the Pasir Gudang Highway here in the 12.40am fatal accident.

The relative added that Kavisha, who was nine-month pregnant, and her sister, including two others including their mother and another sister were heading home to Taman Pasir Putih here from Tebrau.

It is believed that Kavisha's sister lost control of the car as she attempted to evade a pothole, which cause the vehicle to skid before crashing into a barricaded electrical panel box on highway shoulders.

The victim succumbed to severe injuries and died at the HSI. The driver of the car, 30, sustained minor injuries during the accident. She is being admitted to the same hospital and is placed under observation.

Kavisha's mother who was suffering from acute breathing difficulties was also being treated at the same hospital. She, however, is unaware that she lost her daughter and her grandson.

Her family members decided to keep the news away from her, fearing her condition might take a turn for the worst.

Kavisha's mother, who is a single mother, was looking forward to spending her retirement after her daughter broke the news that she was pregnant.

The relative said the unborn infant was to be the first grandson, both for Kavisha's mother and her in-laws.

Kavisha's husband works in Singapore. He was in the republic, when he received the devastating news.

Other family members, who were still devastated by the news, politely turned down a request from the media for an interview and asked for privacy to grief and mourn their lost ones.
