KUALA LUMPUR: The speed limit on federal roads nationwide will be reduced by 10kph during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
The Works Ministry said in a statement the temporary speed limit reduction was one of the safety measures taken by the government to reduce accidents during festive seasons.
"This reduction will be done in conjunction with Ops Bersepadu from Feb 8 to 13.
"As such, the speed limit on federal roads has been lowered to 80kph from 90kph."
The Works Ministry also said non-critical road construction and maintenance works would be suspended to avoid disrupting traffic flow during the period.
"This is in line with the goals of MyJalan programme launched by the ministry, where all parties are collectively responsible for prioritising safety and driving comfort, especially on federal roads," it said.
