Anwar wants Malaysians to perservere in becoming an outstanding society

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been called to continue upholding universal moral princples and persevere in turning the society into an outstanding and 'madani' (civilised) civilisation, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

In his special message in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration this Saturday, the Prime Minister cited the spirit of the Year of the Dragon, which according the Chinese calendar, signifies strength and charisma as well as creativity and strong conviction.

Anwar, in the same message, also pledged the government's commitment to realise the aspiration of the country to become a prosperous and high-dignity nation.

"The economy must be developed in a fair and sustainable manner with integrity. Any elements that lead to damages are to be avoided and we must continue to strengthen our unity.

"I would like to extend my Happy Chinese New Year wishes to the entire Chinese community. May the celebration this year bring abundant happiness and greater blessings," said Anwar in a posting on his Facebook page today.

The social media posting was accompanied by a one-minute long clip of him extending his Chinese New Year celebration wishes to the people.

"I would like to wish a Happy New Year to all Chinese community. May all of you celebrate the New Year with your family in happiness and peaceful manner.

"Xi Nian Kuai Ler. May the celebration this year and years in the future be more happier (to all of you)," said Anwar in the clip.
