Police detain 1,502 individuals in Klang over three-week operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained 1,502 people for various offences during Op Aman Khas, which focused on Klang for nearly three weeks.

Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, said the operation was initiated in response to public complaints regarding violent crimes and other incidents concerning the area.

He said a comprehensive strategy was implemented, involving crackdowns on gang activities, raids on construction sites, drug dens, vice activities, contraband, second-hand goods premises, illegal immigrant settlements, and gambling dens across North and South Klang.

"This operation saw the collaboration of JSJ Bukit Aman, the Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK), as well as the North and South Klang district police headquarters (IPD), with a total of 95 teams comprising 101 senior officers and 283 members."

Mohd Suhaily further detailed the involvement of various enforcement agencies, including the Malaysian Immigration Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), the Labour Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Environment, and the Local Authorities Department (PBT).

"In the pursuit of curbing gang activities, violent crimes, and apprehending wanted individuals, a three-day operation from Jan 15 to 17 led to the arrest of 85 individuals, including 29 members of an organised crime syndicate.

"Raids on identified drug dens resulted in the apprehension of 40 individuals, while operations targeting illegal factories were aimed at identifying victims of human trafficking, leading to the arrest of 30 individuals, including both locals and foreign nationals.

"Furthermore, 74 individuals were arrested for various offences related to vice activities, and an additional 41 individuals were apprehended for engaging in the sale of smuggled goods," he added.

The operations also focused on addressing illegal immigrant settlements, resulting in the arrest of 888 individuals, primarily for lacking valid travel documents and overstaying their visas.

He added that 26 second-hand goods premises in North and South Klang were identified, with six premises issued summonses under Section 6 of the Secondhand Dealers Act 1946, and eight individuals were successfully arrested for various offences.

"Raids on illegal immigrant settlements were conducted from Jan 31 to Feb in North and South Klang aimed at combating various crimes in the area, especially involving illegal immigrants, with 1,349 foreign nationals inspected and 888 individuals arrested, including 771 men, 116 women, and one female child.

"They originated from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, and stateless individuals were arrested for offences of not possessing valid travel documents and overstaying."

According to him, raids on gambling premises resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals for offences under the Open Gambling Houses Act and offences under the Immigration Act.

Also seized during the raids were 38 mobile phones and a total of RM5,455.00 in cash.
