15 Malaysian journalists off to Jakarta on 10-day study tour of presidential polls and National Press Day

SEPANG: A group of 15 Malaysian journalists will depart for Jakarta today, under the Program Jejak Serumpun Ikatan Setiakawan Malaysia-Indonesia (Iswami) Malaysia, for the Indonesian Presidential Election and National Press Day Indonesia.

The delegation, from various local media organisations, will be exposed to the third-largest democratic system in the world while fostering camaraderie among Indonesian media practitioners during the National Press Day celebration.

Iswami Malaysia president Ashwad Ismail said the 10-day educational visit would give an opportunity for the journalists to engage in dialogues on the development and growth of Indonesia, particularly in green technology, digital economy and sustainability.

"In this increasingly challenging global geopolitical landscape, Malaysian journalists also need to be exposed to Track 2 diplomacy by various institutions and non-governmental organisations in Indonesia that promote unity among the people in Asean," he said when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport today.

The group will participate in a series of meetings with Iswami Indonesia, headed by its president Asro Kamal Rokan, as well as visits to major news organisations and other agencies.

In addition, chief editors from Malaysia will join the Iswani delegation to the 2024 National Press Day programme, an annual event that gathers over 6,000 journalists from across Indonesia, and is officiated by outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Berjaya Corporation Berhad, Green Growth Asia Foundation and vFive Group are sponsoring the programme.
