Health Ministry to propose to cabinet for hospital to be built in Gaza

SHAH ALAM: The Health Ministry will propose the construction of a hospital to help rebuild Gaza in the post-war period.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said he would present the proposal to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other members of the cabinet.

"InsyaAllah, we will together help the reconstruction of Gaza, post-war period, and hope that all parties will work together to ensure the success of the reconstruction of Gaza.

"The ministry is ready to prepare the proposal because it requires funds (to build the hospital). I will present this development in the next cabinet meeting, at least the ministerial note.

"Among other things, I will mention Mapim's (Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations) agenda for rebuilding Gaza.

"I need to explain it comprehensively with one of the agendas being the construction of the proposed hospital.

"It cannot be determined yet (when the presentation of the note will take place) but within a reasonable time. Before coming to this ceremony, I had already informed the (Health) director-general that I will discuss this matter," he said after attending a charity dinner for Gaza hosted by Mapim on Sunday night.

Present was Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, better known as Cikgu Azmi.

Dr Dzulkefly said he already has a list of officers and medical staff who will be stationed in Gaza in the future.

"The exact number of personnel has not been determined yet, but our doctors are always ready to be called.

"The list is already in our database. Other requirements, from a health point of view, would be surgical expertise such as plastic surgery and others," he said.

Dr Dzulkefly said his presence at the event was to represent the Madani government under the leadership of Anwar, to ensure that what was implemented by Mapim would receive the government's support.

"This is what is meant by the mobilisation of all countries that act to develop or raise the agenda of rebuilding Gaza.

"Congratulations to Mapim and all the philanthropists who contributed to this agenda, about RM30 million generated tonight including from more than 20 countries such as Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Bangladesh," he said.
