Government to help facilitate Mapim's wish to build hospital in Gaza from public donations

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will only serve as a bridge between the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) and the Palestinian government on the non-governmental organisation's (NGO) effort to build a hospital in Gaza, post-ceasefire.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said Mapim has received RM30 million in donations from the public and expressed its desire to the government to help facilitate inter-government matters.

"What transpired in that conference organised by Mapim, they managed to collect RM30 million in donations from the public and they hope that the Malaysian government will be facilitating and helping in this.

"I said this would be a noble idea and i would present this to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the cabinet.

"But of course that would be determined by our capabilities, but at least we register the request from the NGO," he said during a press conference at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital 2, here today.

Four days ago, it was reported that the Health Ministry will propose the construction of a hospital to help rebuild Gaza in the post-war period.
