New heart centre proposed to address medical needs in Sibu

SIBU: In a move poised to enhance healthcare services in central Sarawak, a proposal for the construction of a dedicated heart centre in Sibu has been put forward to address the pressing needs of cardiac patients in the region.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the Sarawak United Peoples' Party's (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong emphasised the urgency of establishing a cardiac facility that could provide initial treatments to patients suffering from heart conditions.

"This is Sibu residents' greatest aspiration. It's an urgent matter, and if you look at the statistics, heart disease is the leading cause of death in Malaysia.

"Many people suffer from heart conditions, which makes the need for a specialised centre all the more urgent. I hope that a heart centre can be developed in the coming years," he said during a media encounter at the SUPP Dudong Branch Open House along Jalan Lanang.

In light of this, Wong has called on the two MPs from Sibu to play their roles effectively to ensure the swift realisation of the heart centre.

The establishment of such a facility would mark a significant advancement in the healthcare landscape of Sibu, providing specialised cardiac care closer to home for many residents.

The open house event also saw the presence of local leaders from the Sibu area including SUPP Dudong Advisor Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck and the Sibu Chinese Community Leader Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming.

The proposed heart centre is expected to significantly reduce the travel burden for cardiac patients who currently have to travel long distances for specialised treatment.

This facility would not only provide crucial healthcare services but also align with the broader vision of enhancing healthcare infrastructure and accessibility in Sarawak.
