Malaysia, Egypt discuss sending aid to Palestinians through Rafah border

KUALA LUMPUR: Discussions are ongoing between the Malaysian government and Egypt on the delivery of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians next month through the Rafah border crossing under Ops Ihsan.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter was among the issues discussed when he attended a dinner on the invitation of Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia Ragai Tawfik Said Nasr here last night.

Also discussed during his meeting with the Egyptian ambassador included the recent development in Gaza, which is being relentlessly attacked by the Israeli forces.

"May all these good efforts be eased. May we also expedite attempts to deliver all necessary aid to the people of Palestine, who are affected by this conflict (in Gaza)," said Zahid in a social media posting on his Facebook this morning.

Zahid also exchanged tokens of appreciation and conveyed his highest regards for the warm hospitality extended by the Egyptian ambassador.

He added that the meeting between him and Ragai Tawfik will not only foster stronger diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Egypt but also the opportunity to exchange views on important regional as well global issues, enhance economic cooperation and collaboration in education sector.

"May this 'ukhwah' (brotherhood) between Malaysia and Egypt continue to flourish and bring benefits to both countries, fostering cooperation for success and progress," he said.
