Kapar air crash: Loke says Air Accident Investigation Bureau to release 'factual statements'

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (BSKU) will release "factual statements" on the Kapar Air Crash.

This comes amid seemingly contradicting statements about the airworthiness of the ill-fated Gabriel BK160TR aircraft which crashed on Tuesday, killing two people on board.

Yesterday, the Transport Ministry said the plane had valid airworthiness certification under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

However, the plane's manufacturer, Blackshape later said the aircraft was issued a "no-fly" order and had been flown in "flagrant and patent violation of a 'grounding' order."

The Italy-based company said it also sent several reminders to the aircraft's distributor.

Asked to comment on the manufacturer's claim at a press conference here today, Loke said any factual statement on the crash will be released by the BKSU.

"The investigations will be conducted by BSKU and any factual statement will be issued by the bureau," said Loke after a walkabout in conjunction with the reopening of the LRT line between the Masjid Jamek Station and Bandaraya Station.

Tuesday's crash in Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar claimed the lives of pilots Daniel Yee Hsiang Khoon, 30, and co-pilot Roshaan Singh Raina, 42.

The authorities are probing the cause of the accident and will release a preliminary report within 30 days.

A full report will be released in 12 months.
