Chief Statistician: Claims Padu database hacked untrue

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Statistician of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, confirmed that the claim that Central Database Hub (Padu) had been hacked was false.

"Alhamdulillah, we have made a denial (about Padu being hacked)," he said briefly to Berita Harian today.

DOSM which is also an agency under the Economy Ministry, issued a statement on the matter via social media yesterday.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli was reported reprimanding online forum, Lowyat.net for spreading false information, claiming that Padu had been hacked.

Lowyat.net reported yesterday that Padu and the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN),had been hacked by a group known as R00TK1T.

According to the online forum, the hackers claimed to have stolen data from Padu and breached LPPKN's security infrastructure and stole more than 27GB worth of data from its servers.

Lowyat.net later clarified that the alleged hack by R00TK1T on Padu refered to LPPKN's Management and Service Delivery Unit.
