Seberang Prai's forest bathing and mangrove planting marks World Wetland Day

SEBERANG PRAI: The Seberang Prai City Council has launched the inaugural session of its Forest Bathing Programme for the year, coinciding with the commemoration of World Wetland Day, the city council said on a Facebook post on Feb 26.

This eco-conscious event took place along the scenic trails of Denai @ Kampung Sungai Chenaam, Nibong Tebal, marking a step towards better environmental stewardship within the community.

The programme was officially inaugurated by Executive Councillor for Trade, Entrepreneurial Development, and Rural Development Rashidi Zinol alongside notable attendees including Seberang Prai Mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad.

Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, is an activity focused on being present in the forest environment to soak in its tranquillity, which has been shown to have numerous health benefits. This programme is offered free of charge and aims to promote family bonding and personal well-being without the need for extensive physical exertion or financial expenditure.

As part of the 2024 agenda, the council has planned a series of Forest Bathing sessions across various idyllic locations in Seberang Prai, including Bukit Langkap (Suling Hill), Taman Rimba Cherok To' Kun, Bukit DO, Bukit Panchor (Gua Kelawar), and Bukit Juru, encouraging participation from all residents.

In alignment with World Wetland Day's ethos, the event also featured the planting of 500 Rhizophora apiculata mangrove trees along the banks of Sungai Chenaam. This initiative aims to enhance awareness about the importance of preserving and restoring wetland areas, ensuring their sustainable use and conservation for future generations.
