KOTA KINABALU: The National Press Club of Malaysia (NPC) organised a one-day Professional Development Series programme to upskill and empower journalists and media-related personnel in Sabah.
NPC honorary treasurer, Sharanjit Singh, said the programme was timely as participants could learn a number of upskilling initiatives.
Sharanjit, who is New Straits Times executive editor, highlighted one of the sessions, where Crisis Management Centre founder Nordin Abdullah guided participants on crisis management initiatives.
The session also involved a discussion on a practical guide to self-regulation of content by Content Forum chief executive officer Mediha Mahmood, as well as a talk titled 'The Development of the Cybersecurity Landscape' by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) enforcement chief Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun.
Another topic covered was 'Impact Analysis, Data Storytelling, and Critical Decision-Making – A Practical and Comprehensive Guide for Journalists' by Bernama TV producer Gerard Ratnam.
The event was attended by more than 30 people from media organisations, state government agencies, and educational institutions.
Also present was NPC vice-president cum NST group editor Farrah Naz Karim.
The NPC-PDS programme was previously held in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Penang, Perak, and Pahang.
It will conclude its series in Sarawak on Thursday.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching launched the programme at the Tun Abdul Razak Institute for Broadcasting and Information (IPPTAR) on Dec 14 last year.
