11 cases opened under Ops Pantau to monitor prices at Ramadan bazaars

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has opened 11 cases under Ops Pantau, to monitor the prices of goods at Ramadan bazaars this year.

Its minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said of the 11 cases, six involved cases of profiteering.

He said the Ops Pantau, which started on March 12, also monitored grocery shops, supermarkets, wet markets, apart from Ramadan bazaars.

"Between March 12 and 13, we have conducted checks on 3,099 premises and opened 11 cases including six profiteering cases.

"We have issued notices for these entrepreneurs for them to respond on the prices of their goods."

He said this in response to Aminolhuda Hassan (Pakatan Harapan-Sri Gading) during the Minister Question Time in parliament today.

Aminolhuda, in his supplementary question, had asked whether Ops Pantau was conducted at every bazaar, and how the complaint mechanism could be improved.

He also said there had been reports in social media that the price of sunny side up eggs (telur mata) at Ramadan bazaars were being sold at RM4.50.

Meanwhile, Armizan said he hopes consumers would be specific in their complaints to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry on such issues, instead of just making it viral on social media.

He said consumers can make complaints on official ministry platforms and include specific details in their complaints.

"We also urge consumers to use their rights and choose products that are being sold at a reasonable price.

"For example, there is a case at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail bazaar where they sold 'karipap' at a high price, but there are other 'karipap' being sold at a much lower price there.

"In the end it falls back to the consumers to make a choice," he added.
