Sultan of Selangor presents Eid donations to UPM students

SERDANG: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah graciously presented Eid donations to orphans, muallaf (converts), persons with disabilities, and asnaf (the needy) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

His Majesty who is also UPM's chancellor presented the RM21,000 worth of donation to 30 UPM students in conjunction with an iftar and Tarawikh prayers event with approximately 1,000 UPM students and the surrounding community at the UPM Mosque, here.

Sultan Sharafuddin then graciously received Zakat funds for UPM amounting to RM8,169,673.67 presented by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah.

The zakat funds were collected through a salary deduction scheme and counter collections.

Sultan Sharafuddin also received RM1,250,000 from UPM's Wakaf Ilmu Project, presented by the Registrar, Muhazam Mansor.

His Majesty also graciously received UPM's Wakaf Ilmu donations totaling RM 1,979,972.82 from individuals, UPM corporate partners, as well as university staff and students.

The UPM Wakaf Ilmu was established in 2012 to fulfill the needs and financing of academic activities, financial aid, research and facility development for the UPM community.

Of the donations, RM900,000 would be used to upgrade UPM's mosque facilities and RM350,000 would be allocated for a permanent surau project.

His Majesty also received business Zakat amounting to RM158,177 from UPM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (RM100,000), UPM Cooperative Berhad (RM28,177), and TMJ Mesra Travel & Tours Sdn. Bhd. (RM30,000).

His Majesty also received donations from Tabung Haji amounting to RM400,000 for the Wakaf Ambulance Fund to Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS), UPM.

This also includes a donation of RM35,000 from Pharmaniaga Berhad to UPM in corporate contribution.

Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was also in attendance at the event.

Also in attendance was Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
