Sole survivor of Kapit boat tragedy dies

KUALA LUMPUR: The sole surivor of the Kapit boat tragedy has passed away, nearly two weeks after the incident.

The Borneo Post reported that Muhammad Firdaus Ngui Abdullah @ Moses Ngui, 46, who was the only one among five men on the boat that capsized to be saved, died at the Sarawak General Hospital yesterday.

He will be laid to rest at the Semariang Muslim cemetery later today.

It was reported that Muhammad Firdaus, Amerson John Nain, and Jack Balan were transporting explosives to a construction site in Nanga Tulie, and were accompanied by police personnel Corporal Iskandar Ibrahim and Sargaent Jonathan Lambet.

At about 5pm on March 7, the boat carrying the five individuals capsized in Sungai Batang Baleh near the SK Lepong Baleh jetty.

Muhammad Firdaus was rescued by civilians, while the four others, including the two policemen, were swept away by strong currents.

Iskandar, 28, was discovered floating by members of the public last Friday.
