Wan Saiful claims Bersatu rebels approached him to back PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan today claimed that he has been lured by another two members of parliament to influence his behaviour, including speeches to be delivered in Parliament.

He added that the two MPs were Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (PN-Gua Musang) and Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (PN-Tanjong Karang), who are Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members who previously declared support for the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Following this, Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP, also called out for the establishment of a Parliament select committee under Standing Order 80A to identify and penalise individuals who have made offers to influence the behaviours of lawmakers in the Dewan Rakyat.

"These offers were made by Gua Musang (Mohd Azizi) along with two individuals known as Hasnan and Datuk Azman on Jan 17.

"Another one was made by an individual who introduced himself as a Datuk Rahim on Feb 26 after being introduced to me by Tanjong Karang (Zulkafperi).

"Among the offers made were Parliament allocations, project allocation worth RM2 million, the payment for my wife's medical expenses, legal fees to face charges in court, an unspecified amount of token, as well as the dropping of my court case.

"This is a harassment, threat and attempt to influence my behaviour as an MP," he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor told Wan Saiful to submit a motion to the speaker's office for further action as it involves serious allegations towards other MPs.

"Typically based on my observations, it is very rare for MPs to use Standing Order 80A and the allegations disclosed by Tasek Gelugor not only draw attention to the quorum in Parliament itself but also Malaysians as it is broadcast live.

"However, the rules also stipulate that whatever is disclosed by the MPs should be more appropriately formulated into a sentence.

"Hence, I advise the matter be proposed under Section 80A to the speaker as this is an allegation against MPs," he said.

To this, Wan Saiful said he would submit the proposal and hoped that the matter upholds the dignity of the house.

"I will submit the proposal and I hope we can all uphold the dignity and honor this house without interference from external parties."
