Johor Education Department offers counselling for students in suspected sodomy cases

KULAI: Johor Education Department is offering counselling services to three students suspected of being sodomy victims of a political party youth wing leader in Mersing.

State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said the counselling session would commence as soon as possible.

"Certainly (counselling sessions) will be managed by the state Education Department. We are working on it.

"For now, we are leaving it to the police to carry out further investigation into the case," he said after visiting SK Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra here today.

Yesterday, police received five reports by six boys believed to be victims of an alleged sodomy act involving a leader of a political party youth wing.

Mersing police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the man in his 30s was arrested on Tuesday.

He said the suspect was released today after his four days' remand order expired.

Police have classified the case under Section 377C of the Penal Code.

Earlier, a report on the vice chief of a political party's youth wing was arrested to assist investigations into alleged sodomy cases involving students aged between 15 and 21, has gone viral.

It was understood that the victims claimed that they were sexually assaulted by the suspect between 2017 and February this year.
