Endau assemblyman injured in car crash

MERSING: Endau state assemblyman Alwiyah Talib, suffered injuries when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) she was traveling in with her six family members skidded off the road at Km 28 of the Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing, here, yesterday.

District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani reported that Alwiyah sustained injuries to her chin and mouth, requiring 19 stitches, following the accident that occurred at 5:30 pm.

"Alwiyah's husband was driving a Nissan Serena MPV from Johor Baru towards Mersing when it is believed he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and veer off the road," Razak explained, noting that the rest of her family members were unharmed in the incident.

In the Johor state elections two years ago, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate emerged victorious in a competitive five-way race. She triumphed over Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Youzaimi Yusof by securing a majority of 3,041 votes, after garnering a total of 8,433 votes.

In the 14th General Election (EC14), Alwiyah won the seat under the Barisan Nasional's (BN) ticket.

In a statement released by her office, it was clarified that Alwiyah received 13 stitches for injuries to her mouth and an additional six stitches on her chin. According to the statement, Alwiyah has been granted nine days of sick leave, effective from yesterday until next Tuesday. During this period, she will be unable to attend or participate in any previously scheduled events and programmes.
