Sabah Wildlife Dept releases footage of elephant relocated from plantation

TAWAU: The Sabah Wildlife Department has shared several footages of its team translocating an elephant.

In a Facebook post, State Wildlife Director Augustine Tuuga shared three videos depicting the team's efforts in relocating a male elephant measuring approximately 2.5 meters in height.

"If there is really a need to translocate (elephants), then this is how we do it," he captioned the post, referring to the relocation of the elephant from Branko Teck Guan plantation to Gunung Rara Luasong.

The operation, which started at 8am, involved various heavy vehicles to guide the elephant into the cage.

Despite the elephant's size and demeanour, the team, led by Francis Masangkin, successfully completed the task.

"The process of transferring the elephant into the translocation pen proceeded smoothly without any issues," Augustine said.

Departing from Branko Teck Guan Farm at 9.30am, the translocation lorry was accompanied by vehicles from the Sabah Wildlife Department branches in Tawau and Sepilok, along with the Wildlife Rescue Unit.

"The journey to the release site proceeded without incident."

Upon arrival at the release site at 1.30pm, he said the elephant calmly exited the pen when the door was opened.

The operation ended at 3pm.
