Gerik man trampled by an elephant

GERIK: A man was severely injured after being trampled by an elephant at Batu 11, Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway near here last night.

It is learned that the victim, from Felda Bersia, suffered multiple injuries, including broken ribs, a fractured left leg, and head injuries during the 7 pm incident.

Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Yusoff Shariff said the incident occurred when the victim was defecating at a river in the area.

"According to the information we received, the man was suffering from diarrhea and went to relieve himself in the river at the area before he was trampled by the elephant.

"There were 12 people near the scene but only the victim was attacked by the elephant as he was the only one in the river at that time," he said when contacted last night.

The victim, he said, was rushed to the Gerik Hospital before being transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for treatment.
