MIRI: The home of Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Datuk Gerawat Gala was destroyed in a fire on the morning of April 14, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.
The blaze resulted in the destruction of antique treasures worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
Gerawat said that a thorough investigation by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department is underway to determine the fire's origins.
Gerawat, reportedly absent during the outbreak, arrived soon after to collaborate with the department in deciphering the circumstances of the fire.
"Preliminary findings from the department suggest electrical faults as the most likely cause," he said.
The Deputy Minister shared the news while attending a Miri Malay Welfare Trust Board's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. Beyond material loss, he lamented the irreplaceable personal heritage and decades of familial history associated with the house, originally constructed over 30 years ago. This incident, underscored by its sentimental ramifications, continues to be under close scrutiny.
