Flood evacuees rise to 334 in Petaling district

PETALING JAYA: The number of flood victims in temporary relocation centres in the Petaling district has increased by 334 to 320 people.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) recorded 77 families at SK Merbau Sempak, Sungai Buloh,

Selangor APM director Ghazali Abd Rahman said the water had not receded, making it difficult for victims to return home.

"The affected areas are Kampung Kubu Gajah, Paya Jaras and Merbau Sempak.

"Although the water level has increased by almost 1m, Alhamdulillah, there have been no unwanted incidents," he said when contacted by 'Harian Metro'.

He advised people in flood-prone areas to be cautious and aware of weather conditions.

Selangor Youth and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said he was grateful that the Merbau Sempak centre could accommodate all flood victims in the three areas.

"We also received support from the Social Welfare Department and the Health Ministry, which deployed 10 health officers to help evacuees.

"This centre has been open since yesterday. When we received reports of rising water, we immediately evacuated residents."

He added: "We expect a report from the Meteorological Department this evening indicating heavy rain, meaning there is a possibility of rising water levels.

"So we'll be prepared. However, the most important thing is the health of victims, and I hope there are no fatalities."
