Maqis seizes mango consignment from Thailand

KOTA BARU: A consignment of mangoes from Thailand was stopped from entering Malaysia at the Rantau Panjang checkpoint after the fruits were believed to contain Mango pulp weevil (Stemochtetus mangiferae), a pest that feeds inside mangoes.

Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) director in Kelantan, Syed Fuad Syed Putra said it was detected when the consignment was inspected at the checkpoint last May 12.

"The consignment, worth RM26,000, has been seized for further action," he said in a statement today (May 21).

He said the case will be investigated under Section 14 of the MAQIS Act. — BERNAMA
