KOTA KINABALU: A footage of a man who escaped the Kepayan police lockup on Saturday has gone viral.
The 33-year-old man, identified as Nazri Hassan was seen climbing over a grill while the lockup personnel was away for a brief moment.
It is learned that Nazri was under remand from Dec 10 to 18 for a probe under Section 431A of the Penal Code for committing mischief by cutting electric telegraph cables, wires, lines, post, instrument or apparatus for signalling.
During that time, two other detainees were also escorted to the interrogation room at about 12.30pm.
Upon realising Nazri's escape, the lockup personnel tried to chase but failed to apprehend the suspect.
When contacted today, police said they will issue a statement soon.
The video shared by @HazeriSamsuri on X, has garnered 1 million views as of press time.
Brader Tint Kereta commented that Nazri was good in acting that he was handcuffed, while AliffShanusi stated: "He is indeed a professional thief, climbing is a norm."
