#NSTviral: From Hollywood to mamak shop: James Wan shows off roti canai-making skills [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: From directing Hollywood blockbusters to making roti canai – it seems there's no stopping Sarawak-born, Hollywood-based director James Wan from excelling.

The man behind horror box office hits such as The Conjuring and Insidious, Wan tried his hands at flipping the Indian flatbread at an established mamak restaurant in KL.

Although Wan might have enjoyed a successful career in filmmaking in Australia and Hollywood, flipping roti canai seems like second nature to the 46-year-old.

In a short clip posted on the Hitz TikTok account, Wan was seen tossing the dough in front of a small audience, much to their delight.

TikTok user @donutxdonutxdonut playfully suggested that the director put his new skills to use by making a new horror film based on it. "His next horror film should be 'Hantu Roti Canai'", followed by the laughing emojis.

Meanwhile, another user, @Firdaus Casablancas, hoped that the director would make a horror film based in Malaysia with local elements. He wrote: "He should make a horror movie featuring pocong or penanggal or pontianak, with his signature jump scare. Confirm blockbuster."

Fellow TikTok user @itskal agreed. "Imagine him directing our folklore horror."

Others said they couldn't be more proud to have Wan back in Malaysia, albeit a brief one. "A proud Sarawakian," commented user @PamDomLetty. "Welcome back, James Wan," said another user, @kidsjoyfulexplorer.

However, user @RubberBoy hoped to see a collaboration between the director and another fellow Sarawakian, Henry Golding. "Henry Golding should become the main actor for James Wan's movie," it said.

On Instagram, the famous director posted a photo of himself with the King of Fruits, durian, and later went on a sight-seeing tour of Batu Caves and the Petronas Twin Towers.

Wan was in town recently to promote his upcoming action movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
