#NSTviral: Female TV host struggling to clean fish sparks debate on cooking skills and gender stereotypes [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Video depicting a TV host's apparent confusion while gutting and cleaning a fish has garnered many reactions on social media.

In a video shared by @Cool_Wannabe82, the host can be seen stabbing the fish multiple times before making a tiny incision to gut the fish.

He said in the caption on X (formerly Twitter), "Even as a man, I know how to clean fish. If this is how it goes, I am certain she doesn't know how to cook.

The 15-second video had attracted over 5.5 million views on X, with 6,100 likes.

Unfortunately, there were severe judgements from netizens, criticising her for being a woman and not having cooking skills, with the argument that gutting fish is an incredibly easy chore.

@AronOsman criticised, embedding a video of his child gutting fish, saying, "This is an embarrassment. My standard two nephew can do it."

@syahsyedsaid sarcastically commented: "Is this the RM50,000 dowry?"

@tuiter40 said: "Embarrassing. (She) can't even clean the fish properly!"

@wanda_ardie remarked: "Oh dear. Cleaning fish is the easiest. It should start from the head, sister."

However, some netizens flooded the comments section and backed the host, saying it is fine to not know how to clean fish and that people should not belittle her.

@jaimeeroquai replied to one comment: "You are the type of man who expects everything to be done by his wife. You should help out after returning from the market, like my husband and father do. When your wife cooks, you should offer to take over and not just lie on the couch doing nothing."

In support, @ulamraja97 also said: "These are career women. Coming from well-off families. When they were young, they were taken care of by maids. You are different, bro. Living in the village. Poor. You need to make an effort to achieve everything on your own. They just pick everything off the tree. After a manicure, they would not want to clean fish."

@alia_5895 said: "I do not know how to clean fish. But I can cook. When buying, ask the fishmonger to clean it for you. Work smart, not work hard."

@izzy_a_malek commented: "Do not be so harsh, guys. Some people are not skilled, while some are. Those who are skilled should teach those who are not. Instead of criticising, let them learn. They could one day be making 'ikan tiga rasa' every day once they do. That is why educating is better than belittling others."
