#NSTviral: Elderly woman leaves entire US$2.8mil fortune to her beloved pets

KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly woman in China has chosen to leave her substantial fortune of 20 million yuan (US$2.8 million) to her beloved cats and dogs.

South China Morning Post, citing Zonglan News, said the woman decided to do so after her children never visited her.

Her pets were the ones that provided her companionship and comfort.

The woman, whose surname is Liu, reportedly changed her will and ordered that all of her money be used to care for her pets and any of their progeny after her death, with a local veterinary clinic serving as the administrator of her estate.

The clinic is also responsible for the care of the animals.

It was reported that officials from the China Will Registration Centre had alerted Liu to the risks involved in naming a vet clinic to administer her inheritance.

"We told Auntie Liu that if her children change their attitude towards her, she could always alter her will again," the official was quoted as saying.
