#NSTviral: Netizens applaud woman's brave tale of seeking mental health help

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman's courageous step to share her mental health journey on social media has garnered praise from netizens.

In a viral post on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), the user recounted her impactful experience seeking help from a counsellor, leaving a positive impression.

She not only managed to articulate the struggles suffocating her mental health but also highlighted the reassurance provided by the counsellor, instilling a newfound sense of hope.

"Earlier, I reached out to this number and engaged in a conversation with the counsellor. I felt on the verge of tears, unsure of the reason. My voice quivered, yet I maintained control.

"As I was about to end the call, the counsellor reassured me, saying, 'Ma'am, please don't blame yourself,'" she wrote.

She also encouraged other social media users not to hesitate to call government-provided counsellors and to dispel the stigma that their problems are trivial.

"Please, just call. No matter what your problem is, don't invalidate your feelings. The counsellor will listen. They won't judge you. Trust me.

"Some say they couldn't get through even after trying several times. I tried calling twice yesterday, and both times, the counsellor answered.

"Don't lose hope, okay? Try again at a different time. Insha Allah, your turn will come."

It was learned that she sought assistance from the National Mental Health Crisis Line, also known as HEAL Line 15555, which stands as the nation's inaugural crisis hotline provided by the Health Ministry.

Checked by NST in the comment sections, numerous social media users lauded her bravery for embarking on such a journey, acknowledging that others might choose different paths or keep such matters to themselves.

"We need this kind of awesomeness. Thank you for staying true to yourself. Hopefully, this year we will be happier," wrote @Rida Bahar.

"All is well, I know it has been hard for you, and I hope you are doing fine after this," said @Nafir
