#NSTviral: Eagle-eyed Tengku Hassanal spots and saves trapped eagle in river [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, is known for his efforts in championing environmental preservation.

So it is no surprise that the outgoing prince took it upon himself to steer his entourage to a trapped eagle when he saw it struggling to free itself from a fish trap near the Jeti Kampung Ganding in Jerantut.

The incident, which was caught on video by TV3 reporter Fazli Ahmad, has since gone viral on social media.

Tengku Hassanal was on his four-day expedition, Ekspedisi Mahkota Mudik Sungai Pahang 2024, which wrapped up yesterday, when he stumbled on the trapped bird.

Tengku Hassanal was accompanied by Tengku Panglima Raja Brigadier Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah.

In the video, the humble and down-to-earth prince was seen trying to cut the rope in an attempt to free the bird, with the help of his brother, Tengku Amir.

Later, Tengku Hassanal instructed a crew from a nearby Fire and Rescue Department boat to release the bird into a safe environment.

On social media, netizens praised the princes' quick action in saving the bird's life.

"Good quick thinking, Tuanku! Thank you for saving the bird's life," a social media user wrote.

Previously, the prince's strong advocacy for animals was seen in his ongoing conservation campaigns in Malaysia to save Malayan tigers from extinction.
