#NSTviral: Most luxurious restrooms: Chinese vernacular school in KL goes viral for its state-of-the-art restrooms

KUALA LUMPUR: While schools sometimes fall short in terms of restroom facilities, one Chinese vernacular school here has washed away the competition with its newly-renovated toilets.

In a series of nine photos posted by SJK (C) Chung Kwok on their Facebook page, two luxurious restrooms (male and female) complete with automatic flushing sensors for their toilets and urinals were shown.

Not only that, the five-star treatment also extended to the automatic faucets and soap dispensers at the sinks. The photos, which were uploaded on March 11, have garnered over 2,200 shares and 2,400 likes at the time of writing.

In an interview with SAYS, a representative from the school said the renovation took about three months to complete. However, the school said it was difficult to provide an exact figure for the renovation cost. The representative from the school added that many parents had contributed to the cost of the renovation.

Some of the parents, who worked as interior designers, also helped with the designing. The school added that since the SJK(C) Chung Kwok is a semi-private school, no public funds were used in the renovation.

"Knowing that it's for the students, the contractors who were working on the project did not charge us the full amount. Even the tile dealer did not charge us the full amount," the representative said. "The parents even made suggestions when it came to buying electrical wiring, lights, and other miscellaneous items," it added.

Earlier this year, SMK Matang in Kuala Berang, Terengganu made headlines after the Education Ministry promised to upgrade its dilapidated toilets.
