KUALA LUMPUR: A Somalian woman has praised the beauty of the prayer gown worn by Malaysian women when praying at a mosque.
In a short video from TikTok under the username @yourtypicalcouple, a woman known as Sagal Ali expressed her excitement about wearing a prayer gown commonly worn among Muslim women in Malaysia.
She described Malaysian women as wearing beautiful prayer garments whenever they perform their prayers.
"One thing I realise that Malaysian women do is when it comes to prayer, they always have the most beautiful prayer gowns and I'm not talking about those who wear their headscarves as obviously, they need to bring headscarves to pray.
"I'm talking about a Malaysian sister wearing a perfect hijab, mashallah well covered, they will always have an extra prayer gown when it comes to praying," she said.
Sagal added she had never seen other cultures outside of Malaysia provided these prayer gowns called "telekung" at the mosque and added that her daughter loved wearing them when praying.
The short video has gained 895,000 views recently and Malaysian netizens were shocked when they noticed that their cultural practice of wearing prayer gowns was being appreciated by others.
User @tiutsha commented: "The best feeling is when you fall asleep with telekung after Subuh prayer, it feels like someone is hugging you to sleep."
Another user, @lazymea commented: "I thought telekung was a worldwide thing until I went abroad!"
In the comment section, some people shared their experience wearing telekung when going abroad.
User @sitifairus287 commented: "I lived in Pakistan for two months and women there only wear dupatta to cover their head. Their hands and feet are shown. When they saw me wearing telekung to pray, they were shocked!"
Another user shared their experience as well. User @meand55others commented: "When I was visiting Makkah, youngsters from Nigeria came to me and said Malaysian telekung are all pretty and all white. They said the telekung looks clean."
