Pas delegates support move to cut ties with PKR

ALOR STAR: Pas delegates at the party's 63rd delegates conference (muktamar) today approved a motion to sever political cooperation with PKR.

The motion received an overwhelming support and will now be forwarded to the Syura Council, the party's highest decision-making body.

The delegates had earlier approved a motion calling for the party to field candidates in all the seats contested by PKR, should both parties failed to reach an agreement ahead of the 14th General Election (GE14).

The motion to end the 'tahaluf siyasi' (political cooperation) with PKR was tabled by a delegate from the Ulama wing, Zulkefli Ismail and later debated. It was seconded by a delegate from the party's Pasir Mas division, Fadzli Shaari.

Zulkefli said Pas should cut ties with PKR as it was clear that the latter could no longer be trusted as an ally. He cited PKR's move to support Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) in contesting against Pas during the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.

"PKR had also failed to provide a significant support to Pas' effort to table the bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) or Act 355, and seem to be siding with DAP which has strongly objected to the bill," he said.

The delegates had also approved a motion for the party to field its candidates at all seats to be contested by PKR in the next general election.
